MOORE: DUO CAN PUT US ON RIGHT TRACK

- By Joshua Richards

THE deadline-day signings of Luke James and John Laurent could be the solution to Hartlepool’s struggles, according to boss Ronnie Moore.

Striker James returns to Victoria Road on loan from Peterborough United, having swapped Pools for Posh in September 2014, while 20-year-old midfielder Laurent arrives on a permanent deal after being released by Brentford.

James, in particular, brings proven quality to the side having scored 22 goals in 99 appearances during his previous stint at the club.

Moore was proud the 20-year-old chose Pools over other suitors.

“I’m happy with what we did.We needed strengthening and we have done that,’’ he added.

“The two lads will help us on the right path, where we need to be.

“Luke coming back is good for us all.

“There were clubs better off than us after him and he wanted to come back here which was pleasing.

“He will give us something different, some determination and hard work which can only improve us.”

Moore is still in the market for additions to the squad when the emergency loan window opens on Tuesday, but ultimately he wants to be able to sign players on permanent deals.

“We would like our own players,” said Moore.

“We aren’t kidding anyone. We had bids in, bids rejected, bids accepted and then players turned us down.

“We have looked at Non-League – three different players – and had offers knocked back, then accepted. Players want to leave it to the summer because of their agents getting involved.

“The loan window opens next week.

“We can only play five, so we look at where we need strengthening in certain areas.”
