FORCE, SAYS LIVERPOOL NEW GIRL

-

last season’s top scorers Natasha Dowie and Asisat Oshoala in the process, Weir is adamant Liverpool’s new-look line up will take the club to the next level.

“There are a lot of new faces at the club, and it’s a really exciting time for us,” she said. “We have signed a lot of good players and everyone is looking forward to getting started as we feel we can make things happen this season.

“I wouldn’t say we were under any more pressure than usual to perform. The club had a tough season, so we will go in without the pressure of success on us.

“There are a lot of new players here, but we are all determined to do well and compete with the bigger teams.

“We’ll have to see what happens, but we are all positive we can do that. We want to finish as high as possible, but it’s set to be even more competitive this year. The key will be to take each week as it comes.

“You always want to win trophies and be as successful as possible so, hopefully, Liverpool can get over last year.”

Rogers is breaking ground off the field, as well, with Liverpool off to Johannesburg on their first ever pre-season tour this month.

Having moved north from relegated Bristol Academy, Weir admits the decision was fairly easy, with big plans in place at Liverpool.

She added: “Liverpool are a big club with an incredible history who have been very successful the last couple of years. I don’t want to be playing in WSL 2, so staying in the first division was a big thing for me and that made the decision a lot more straightforward.

“At the beginning of any season, it’s important to get to know each other both on and off the pitch, and heading to South Africa is the perfect opportunity to do that.

“It could make all the difference during the season, and we can get some training done in the sun, which is a bonus.”
