WE’LL GO FOR IT, SAYS DEFIANT EVANS

- By Dan Gillott

LEEDS United visit a rejuvenated Brighton & Hove Albion tomorrow night but manager Steve Evans insists there is no plan to shut up shop at the Amex Stadium.

Evans’ side are without a win in four in all competitions, scoring just once along the way – in Tuesday’s 1-1 home draw against Fulham.

Striker Chris Wood remains sidelined as a lack of cutting edge evades them but the manager is not gunning for a goalless draw against a Brighton side that put four past Bristol City in midweek.

It was a positive response from the promotion-chasing Seagulls, who had been thrashed 4-1 at Cardiff City last Saturday.

“We’ve got to believe we can go there and win – we’re going there to try to do that,” said Evans. “We’re not going to go there and put 11 men behind the ball.”

Evans does have holding midfielder Liam Bridcutt at his disposal once again but it is in the final third where the Scotsman could do with freshening things up.

Mirco Antenucci has not found the next since early November, while Souleymane Doukara – who scored four in all competitions in January – has not struck in his last four outings.

Wood is on the road to recovery following two separate hamstring injuries – the latter sustained at Brentford last month – but Evans said: “We just need to make sure he’s 100 per cent.

“We could play him at Brighton but there would be the same element of risk that we had at Brentford and that just cannot be an option.”
