RITCHIE HUMPHREYS FACTFILE

-

Born: Sheffield, 1977 (Age 38) 1996-2001

Initially a striker (though he has since played in almost every outfield position), Humphreys made his Wednesday debut in 1995-96, aged 17, before becoming a regular the following year. He eventually scored eight goals in 82 games for the Owls (five of them in his first seven games) and also had loans at Scunthorpe, Cardiff and Cambridge United, before making a permanent switch to Hartlepool in

2001. 2001-06

A Division Three play-off semi-finalist in his first season, Humphreys scored 11 goals in 49 games and won the club’s player of the year award as Pools finished third to clinch promotion in 2002-03. He was also named in the PFA team of the season. However, Humphreys would suffer further play-off heartache in 2004 and 2005, followed by relegation in 2006. Between October 2001 and August 2006, he made a club record 230 consecutive appearances. In 200607, he was part of the side that finished runners-up to win an instant return to League One.

2006-13

After a spell out of favour under Danny Wilson, in which he was loaned to Port Vale, Humphreys returned in 2007-08 to once again become a fixture in the side. In 2011, he played his 473rd game for the club, eclipsing the record set by Watty Moore over half a century earlier. When he finally left to join Chesterfield in 2013, Humphreys had played 544 games for Pools, scoring 37 goals.

2013-present

Signed by Chesterfield boss Paul Cook, the 36-year-old Humphreys was ever-present as the Spireites clinched the 2013-14 League Two title and reached the JPT final. He has now played 76 times for the club, combining playing with his work as chairman of the PFA.
