DANNY: LOAN TO AID DEC EURO BID

- By Paul Ellison

CHESTERFIELD manager Danny Wilson believes Declan John could force his way into Wales’ Euro 2016 squad after the defender extended his stay at the Proact Stadium.

John initially arrived at Chesterfield from Cardiff on a one-month loan deal in February, but this week extended his stay until the end of the campaign.

Whilst playing for Cardiff in the Premier League, John was twice called up by Wales boss Chris Coleman.

And as Wales now prepare for their first major tournament since 1958,Wilson wouldn’t be surprised to see the 20-year-old force his way into Coleman’s squad.

“It’s a big bonus for us that he’s agreed to stay and that Cardiff have allowed him to,” Wilson said.

“Being here can only do him a power of good internationally. He’s playing 90 minutes in games in a very tough league. That always will count for a lot when you’re looking to get picked by your international team.

“When you’re playing U21 football all the time and it’s intermittent that could possibly go against you, so it’s a positive move for him.

“Hopefully, we can give him the platform to step up.”
