CAM SO CHUFFED TO BAG AWARD

- By Tom Blackett

LUTON Town midfielder Cameron McGeehan admitted it was ‘amazing’ to join the illustrious list of winners of the Football League’s Young Player of the Month award.

Previous recipients include the likes of MK Dons’ Dele Alli (now Tottenham), Birmingham City’s Demarai Gray (now Leicester) and Fulham’s Moussa Dembele.

And McGeehan joined them after his impressive displays for the Hatters, including three goals in five games in February.

Talking about the former winners, the 20-year-old said: “It is amazing to be in the same sort of bracket as those players like Dele Alli who open the door for every other young player, showing them what it takes to play in the Football League and then go on and hit the heights of scoring for England against France.

“I am really privileged and happy to have won the award. It is a nice bit of recognition for me.”

Luton manager Nathan Jones said: “Cameron is a self-motivated player. He trains hard, has the desire to do well, listen – and with that kind of attitude and ability that he has, we’re delighted to have him. Since I’ve come in he has been fantastic.”
