It’s hairy but Grant is ecstatic with win

- By Joel Lamy

MANAGING Peterborough United means the world to Grant McCann, even if it will have aged him considerably by the end of the season.

The 36-year-old saw Gwion Edwards seal a late comeback win in his first match as the permanent Posh boss after Rochdale goalkeeper Josh Lillis had dropped a Paul Taylor cross invitingly in his path.

Marcus Maddison and Chris Forrester had twice equalised for the visitors in the first half after an Andy Cannon strike and Ian Henderson penalty.

McCann, who played 185 times for Peterborough, said if the season continues in this vein then he would “probably be grey by the end of it”.

He added: “It means the world to me to be here. I love this place.

“I really enjoyed the game and it’s always nice to get a win from your first game.

“I told the players this is a very tough place to come and not many teams will come here and win this season.

“I thought it was an excellent performance, especially defensively.”

Reports in the week said Peterborough had had a £1.7million bid for Hibs striker Jason Cummings turned down.

McCann, who replaced Graham Westley as manager, said he was happy with his current squad though.

He added: “I’m not sure where that came from. If anything happens before the end of the window, it happens.”

Cannon deservedly opened the scoring for Rochdale, who finished tenth last season, with a scuffed shot through the Peterborough defence.

The visitors responded when Maddison beat Lillis at his near post before last season’s top scorer Henderson restored Dale’s lead after Jermaine Anderson had clearly fouled Joe Rafferty in the area.
