Yes, Yaser! Kasim has the Robins rocking

- By Dan Sheldon

SWINDON Town head coach Luke Williams felt Yaser Kasim’s late winner was just reward for a superb display.

The 25-year-old Iraqi midfielder only managed a single League One goal last term.

But he got the new season off to a flying start with a curling effort to seal the points.

Williams said: “It’s fantastic to have a player of that quality who showed his composure in the final minutes.

“The players looked fit and the longer the game went on, the more powerful we looked.

“It’s a big pitch and we moved the ball round which eventually took it out of the Coventry players and we started to create more chances due to the space being left open.”

Teenage rookie Jordan Young also received plaudits from Williams after coming on in the second half and hitting the bar.

Williams added: “Young came on and caused problems, he doesn’t look like a boy who has just turned 17.

“It was a perfect moment for him to come on in the late stages of the game.

“Our gameplan was perfect as we had a clean sheet and a goal.

“Teams will come here and make it hard for us because we are Swindon and we play the way we want to play.”

Striker Marvin Sordell hit the post in the fourth minute with a left-footed shot in a swift start for Coventry.

A lapse in concentration from Swindon’s Jamie Sendles-White in the eighth minute was wasted by Coventry’s George Thomas who put his attempt wide.

Coventry City were punished after failing to take their chances which left boss Tony Mowbray frustrated.

Mowbray said: “We were playing against a decent football team who are strong with the ball, their ball retention is good.

“You play Swindon and that’s all they do, they keep the ball.

“They’re a good football team, they pass and spread it about.

“But I believe that is when they are at their most vulnerable.

“We were allowing them to have the ball at the back and not pressing too high, every now and then we had a chance.

“I think we would have gone on to win the game if we had scored the first goal.

“Ultimately we ended up losing a tight football match.

“It was looking like a goalless draw after the chances had been missed by both teams.

“We needed to make sure we frustrated them, we needed to hurt them and we didn’t punish them.”
