- By Tom Blackett

FANS can play their part in helping to decide the Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month winners for August.

In the Championship, the nominations are Jacob Murphy (Norwich) v Blackburn, Tom Cairney (Fulham) v Leeds, and Dwight Gayle’s first for Newcastle against Reading.

Murphy picked the ball up, beat his man and rifled a shot into the top right-hand corner from 25 yards. It was his first goal for the club on a successful opening day outing – the Canaries won 4-1.

Cairney allowed Kevin McDonald’s pass from the right wing to roll across his body, before dispatching a curling effort into the bottom left corner of Robert Green’s goal from outside the area.

Gayle lined up a 30-yard free-kick and hit a fierce curling effort into the top left hand corner of Ali AlHabsi’s goal as the Toon Army ran out 4-1 winners.

In League One, the contenders are Mark Marshall (Bradford City) v Coventry, Jay Spearing (Bolton) v Shefield United and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas’ second for Gillingham versus Shrewsbury.

In League Two, the nominations are Dan O’Shaughnessy (Cheltenham) v Mansfield, Alex Kiwomya (Crewe) v Newport County and Graham Carey’s second for Plymouth against Mansfield.

Voting is now open on skysports.com. The winners will be announced on Friday.
