McGREAL FORCED TO WAIT ON OWEN
MIDFIELDER Owen Garvan is still some way off making his first appearance of the season, Colchester United boss John McGreal has grudgingly accepted.
The 28-year-old, who joined Colchester on a free transfer from Crystal Palace 12 months ago, suffered a knee injury in the final pre-season friendly with Southend United.
He had been pencilled in to return imminently, but McGreal revealed Garvan suffered a setback and will be absent for an indefinite period.
“Owen is feeling his knee at the moment, so he’s been stop-start since the Southend game,” said McGreal.
“Owen is on a programme, to see how far he can get with that. He needs games, as well, to get back into it, so I think it will be a few weeks before he is back.
“He was a key man for the club last season, but I haven’t had him at my disposal this season.”
