INJURED THORNE WON’T BE RUSHED

- By Chris Bailey

MANAGER Nigel Pearson won’t be rushing midfielder George Thorne back into first-team action for Derby County and thinks fans may have to wait until midNovember to see him in action.

Thorne, 23, arrived at the iPro Stadium in 2014 but damaged a cruciate knee ligament during that preseason and suffered a broken leg in the final game of last season.

Pearson believes it’s in Thorne’s long-term interest to remain on the sidelines until he is completely match fit.

“I don’t foresee him being available until midNovember,” said Pearson.

“With the nature of the injury and one or two complications he has had to deal with, I think it is very important for us to make sure when he is back, he is back with a really good chance of staying injuryfree for a long time to come.

“When you are dealing with players it is about striking a balance between getting them back available, but being able to stay available.

“I never take those decisions lightly, and certainly in George Thorne’s case we have got to make sure he does enough training and is prepared as well as he can be before he is exposed again to first-team action.”
