FREAR IN MIDDLE AS RIVALS TAKE AIM

- By Ben Baker

CHELTENHAM TOWN and Non-League neighbours Forest Green Rovers have been at loggerheads this week, with differing accounts of the pursuit of winger Elliott Frear.

Robins chairman Paul Baker says his club agreed a fee for Frear’s services but later chose not to pursue the deal.

However, Rovers are insistent that Cheltenham had not made contact over signing the 26-year-old.

Baker said: “Their statement annoyed me and perhaps that was the purpose of it. There is no love lost between the two clubs.

“We could have risen to the bait but we didn’t.

“We met the valuation that Forest Green put on the player but decided not to pursue it for other reasons. End of.”

Rovers say, though: “We’ve never put a value on Elliott and certainly not had any contact from Cheltenham about him.

“Surely, it is time to move on from this and concentrate on football.”
