It’s hats off to Monty the mascot

-

LAST WEEK, we reported how former Luton star Raddy Antic was backing the Hatters’ bid for a new ground – and now they’ve got Monty Panesar and Jeff Stelling on the case!

England cricketer Panesar popped into Kenilworth Road last Monday to send Luton Borough Council his email of support for Power Court, a stadium he believes will be ‘the centre for Luton in the 21st century’.

Luton-born Panesar is urging everyone to get behind the bid.

The 34-year-old Northamptonshire spin bowler said: “Let’s get this new stadium up and running and hopefully, when it’s 2020, I may just appear in the new stadium as the Hatters’ mascot!”

Meanwhile, Soccer Saturday host Stelling has also weighed in – though his reasons for doing so are not entirely based on Luton’s welfare.

He added: “My beloved Hartlepool have had a torrid time against the Hatters since they returned to the Football League, so the sooner they are out of League Two and climbing up the divisions the better.”
