ARGYLE STACK UP THE GOALS

- By Matt Bamsey

DEREK ADAMS admits he was blown away by the quality of his side’s finishing as Plymouth made their best start to a season in 65 years.

Jimmy Spencer started the rout with a moment of brilliance before Jervis doubled Plymouth’s lead on 43 minutes. Darren Ward gave Yeovil hope by reducing the arrears on the stroke of halftime before the Glovers were swept aside by the league leaders after the interval.

Graham Carey added a third with a touch of the sublime and Jervis grabbed his second four minutes from time as Plymouth stayed five points clear at the top thanks to their eighth win from their last nine league games.

Pilgrims manager Adams said: “It was a terrific performance, at times exhilarating, and it would have been difficult for any team to stop us.

“The goals were all fantastic in different ways. Jake scored another two, Jimmy scored his first one at home and Graham’s was outstanding.

“We are in really good form and to have that points total already is really pleasing.

“This is the club’s best start in over half-a-century and that shows you how well we have done so far.

“But we need to keep it going. It is a tough league.”

Yeovil keeper Artur Krysiak pulled off smart saves to deny Carey and Spencer before the Pilgrims made their pressure pay on 39 minutes.

Spencer danced past Izale McLeod and Ryan Dickson and then curled a stunning leftfooted shot into the top corner.

Plymouth doubled their lead four minutes later after Jervis cut in from the right and hit a shot which deflected off Alex Lacey and flashed past Krysiak.

But Yeovil hit back on the stroke of half-time when Matthew Dolan’s cross slid across the six-yard box for Ward to tap in at the far post.
