Parky: My Trotters turned the corner

- By Mark Davies

BOLTON Wanderers manager Phil Parkinson felt his side’s late win at Swindon could prove to be a pivotal moment in their season.

Wanderers found themselves up against an inspired Lawrence Vigouroux in the Robins net, needing a late Brandon OrmondeOttewill own goal to claim all three points at the County Ground.

But Parkinson insisted his side deserved their bit of luck.

“Moments like this can prove a turning point, and we hope that’s the case,” he said.

“I felt on the balance of play we deserved the win. This will give everyone a huge lift, it just proves how tough this league is. We could easily have left here without the three points. You have to take your chances.

“The lad in their goal kept them in it with some terrific saves and I’m confident a four or five nil win is just round the corner for us. We’re aiming high as a time and performances like this must be the marker.”

James Henry could have easily had two goals in the first half, whilst Zach Clough and Tom Thorpe also went close as Bolton dominated from start to finish. This was glaring evidence of why they’d failed to score in their previous four outings.

Played through oneon one, Henry shot straight at Vigouroux’s legs before heading over from point-blank range five minutes later.

John Goddard flashed an effort wide for the hosts but Vigouroux was even busier in the second half, parrying over from Clough and then from substitute Jamie Proctor.

The breakthrough came in the 84th minute, Vigouroux saving brilliantly from Keshi Anderson before Josh Vela’s rebound was unwittingly turned in by OrmondeOttewill.

Swindon’s misery was compounded when Raphael Rossi-Branco was shown a straight red card for an elbow on Lawrie Wilson, and first-team coach Ross Embleton had no complaints. “It was a silly red card from Raphael, a foolish incident and it just sums up our frustration but it’s unacceptable to do what he did,” he said.

“We were very sloppy and that’s very hard to take, it’s a damaging defeat, no doubt about that. There were one or two moments when Lawrence kept us in it. Our build-up play wasn’t there and we never really threatened.

“We’re going to have to go back to the training pitch, playing Saturday-Tuesday is tough but we have a full week to get things back on track.”
