Team mates

Best mate? I get on with everyone at the club – team-mates, the younger lads, staff. I don’t like closing myself off, so I wouldn’t like to say I have one best mate. Last to buy dinner? Omar Sowunmi is the tightest. He’s always the last to offer lifts so he can sit in the back and browse Instagram, instead of having to drive. FIFA King? Ben Whitfield set his console up in my front room and beats me most of the time. That’s when he’s not locked away in his room shouting and swearing at the game on his own TV, though! Worst dressed? No hesitation – Artur Krysiak. Some of the stuff I’ve seen him turn up to training in is unbelievable. The pink McKenzie top is a memory I’ll never be able to get rid of. Dressing room DJ? Strangely enough, it’s usually the kit man who puts the music on, so thankfully there are no arguments. I reckon Tommy Eaves has the worst music taste, though. I think I’m too young to appreciate all his oldies. Most skilful? Tahvon Campbell is the nutmeg king. I’d also put myself in this category. A stepover/Cruyff turn I once did in a game sticks out in my mind. I’m sure there’s a video of it somewhere. Late for training? There are pretty strict fines for lateness, so it’s rare that anyone turns up after we’re meant to be there, but Nathan Smith usually swaggers in with a few precious seconds to spare. Teacher’s pet? It’s Artur Krysiak again. There was one game in August where he tweeted about how the manager had masterminded our win. There were emojis, text speak and he used ‘#genius’ – he got a lot of stick. Worst cook? Ben Whitfield again. Since he’s been living with me, I’ve discovered just how bad his cookery ‘skills’ are. Soup for dinner every night – he doesn’t even know how to cook eggs. First on the dancefloor? Nathan Smith usually warms up before a game by dancing erratically around the changing room. He’s got decent rhythm but just seems to let the music take him where it wants. Most likely to disgrace themselves at the Christmas party? There are a few I could suggest but Kevin Dawson can be a real loose cannon when we all go out. Let’s just say he enjoys the night more than most. Worst tattoo? Sorry Artur, you again. That wolverine thing down your shoulder doesn’t do it for me. Never puts their phone down? Ryan Hedges is the one tweeting about a win before he even thinks about celebrating it. Partial to a sunbed? Jonny Maddison tries to disguise the fact he comes from Newcastle by tanning until he looks like he lives in Spain. Best manager? It’s got to be the captain, Darren Ward. He’s played for more than 20 years and helps out with the younger lads. He was caretaker boss at Swindon for a game.
