Sheridan slams his shambolic Magpies

- By Scott Hunt

NOTTS County manager John Sheridan labelled his side’s performance a ‘shambles’ and believes it was his worst in management as they were hammered 4-0 by Blackpool.

A double from Kyle Vassell, and quick-fire second-half strikes from Colin Daniel and Jamille Matt ensured Blackpool have still lost just once at home this season.

Substitute Vadaine Oliver was sent off late on for County as they suffered their first defeat in three games.

But their manager believed the winning margin could have been even greater.

“I’m a very angry man,” Sheridan said.

“I’ve been a manager for over 500 games and that’s probably the worst performance I’ve had under my management.

“I will not accept anything that went on today. We were a shambles.

“We lost 4-0 and it could have been seven or eight. I was calm in there but I wanted to explode. I’m gutted for the supporters. I will apologise to the fans on the players’ behalf.

“It was totally inept from number one to 11. I’ve got them in early in the morning. I’m trying to look after them but I can’t give them rest time when they play like that.”

The Seasiders went ahead after 20 minutes as Vassell picked up the loose ball and slotted past Adam Collin from 12 yards.

Matt then rounded Collin, but somehow placed the ball comfortably wide of the far post when faced with an open goal.

But Gary Bowyer’s side notched twice within seven minutes of half-time, as Vassell’s shot was parried as far as Daniel who tapped home before Matt fired a third – after picking up on Vassell’s deflected shot.

Notts County’s misery was compounded when Oliver was shown a straight red after 79 minutes for a bad tackle on Tom Aldred, before Vassell grabbed his second three minutes from time to complete the rout.

“We were pleased with how we went about it,” Blackpool boss Gary Bowyer said. “We are not going to get carried away. It’s a building job and it takes time. We’ve got good momentum from the last couple of games and we wanted to keep that going.

“Kyle Vassell was unplayable today. He was awesome, as was Jamille Matt. The character that Jamille showed after missing that chance, and the spirit of the lads who rallied round him, was really impressive.

“The message we’ve just said there is that we’re building a good reputation at home. We have to transfer that onto the road.”
