ADAM’S GETTING BACK TO HIS BEST

- By Josh Wilson

ADAM Matthews still has more to give according to the player himself, after regaining full fitness following a hamstring injury.

The 24-year-old right back started the season training with the Sunderland Under-23 squad before agreeing a season-long loan with Bristol City.

But he missed the start due to the injury and was able to make his return only at the start of the December.

But even with only three games under his belt ahead of the weekend, the defender is confident he has plenty more to show the staff at Ashton Gate as he gets up to speed.

“I’m feeling confident in my own performances at the moment,” he said. “I’m getting fitter with every game, although I don’t think I’m at my best yet. I’ll just keep working hard.

“I didn’t have a good start to pre-season so it became a tough start to the campaign for me; stop-start really with the injury I picked up against Newcastle.

“I’ve enjoyed coming here and I’m working really hard to get up to speed.

“Hopefully the injuries are behind me now and I can get a good run in the team to build my fitness.”
