TRIBUTES TO VALE MAN MATT

-

EX-PORT Vale hitman Tony Naylor led the tributes after former Valiants skipper Matt Carragher died on Friday, aged 40.

A tribute was held at Vale Park ahead of Friday’s clash with Chesterfield for the man who led them to LDV Vans Trophy glory at the Millennium Stadium in 2001.

Having moved to Port Vale from Wigan in 1997, the defender made 220 appearances in a sevenyear stint.

Naylor, who was also in the side that beat Brentford in the 2001 final, said: “Matty was a cheeky chappie, a typical Scouse lad, confident and a nice guy with it.”
