GRIMSBY’S GUNNING DELIGHT

GRIMSBY boss Marcus Bignot admitted it was a coup to bring in summer transfer target Gavin Gunning six months early, and expects the defender to make a big impact.

The 25-year-old former Dundee United player has joined the Mariners from Greenock Morton, and Bignot revealed he had not expected to get him until the end of the campaign.

“You don’t turn down the chance to get someone like Gavin Gunning in the building,” said Bignot.

“Gavin was a player we had certainly identified for the summer. We like to look a window ahead. For us, to get him in now, we are absolutely delighted.”
