RODMAN RELISHES HIS BIG CHANCE

- By Luke Baker

MAKING his first foray into League One aged 29, Alex Rodman is something of a late bloomer but Shrewsbury’s new signing is convinced he will handle the step up with aplomb.

Having spent most of his early career in Non-League football, Rodman earned a move to League Two Newport County in the summer of 2015 before heading to Notts County at the start of this season.

The winger has now inked an 18-month deal with the Shrews after the Magpies allowed him to leave on a free and he is relishing the step up.

“I’ve done the rounds in the lower leagues and I’m happy to say I’m in League One now with Shrewsbury,” said Rodman.

“It’s my first experience of League One football and I don’t think it will be too different from League Two. There might be a bit more football played and a bit more athleticism in some of the teams.

“I guess some of the big clubs – the likes of Sheffield United and Bolton – will be very strong but I’m looking forward to the challenge.

“I’ve seen some of the results recently and I know we can push on and get away from the relegation zone as quickly as possible.”
