MICK IN MARKET TO MAKE DOUBLE SIGNING

-

IPSWICH have added a former Premier League regular – and a player many are tipping to one day become one. Boss Mick McCarthy has signed ex-Newcastle United captain Steven Taylor, 31, after his time at MLS side Portland Timbers came to an end. But on Friday the Championship club looked in the other direction to supplement their squad by adding highlyrated Macclesfield Town attacking midfielder Danny Rowe. The 24-year-old has been one of Non-League football’s most consistent players and now he has risen three divisions after scoring seven times in the National League for the Silkmen. McCarthy has history when it comes to signing players from outside the Football League. He picked up Tyrone Mings from Southern League Chippenham Town for £10,000 in 2012 before selling him to Premier League AFC Bournemouth for a fee thought to be near £10m. Rowe becomes the fifth new signing to arrive at Portman Road in January. One player who won’t, though, be wearing the blue shirt again this term is striker Leon Best. “I’ve told him he won’t play again for me” McCarthy confirmed. “He trained well and impressed everyone for two weeks but he’s not done it since. I’m sure Leon has a different view but it’s my view that counts.”
