BOLTON FAITHFUL SURELY DESERVE BETTER
IT’S fair to assume that Dean Holdsworth and Ken Anderson won’t be exchanging flowers and roses this Tuesday.
Bolton’s estranged directors have spent the week in a childish public spat over who’s to blame for the club’s parlous financial state.
Anderson claims a lack of backing from Holdsworth forced the £2.5m sale of star striker Zach Clough to Nottingham Forest.
Holdsworth, who used an eye-watering Wongastyle loan to fund his side of the takeover last March, said Anderson was withholding “critical financial information” and accused the Monaco-based businessman of withdrawing all the funds he initially invested.
In truth, neither has much grip on the moral high ground. Auditors Deloitte this week unearthed “material and pervasive shortcomings” at the club, which is losing approx £11m a year.
They were also unable to determine whether adequate accounting records had been kept and refused to validate Anderson’s assertion that the club is a going concern.
In short, Bolton don’t have a pot to p*** in and it looks increasingly doubtful that either Holdsworth or Anderson ever had the means to provide one.
The third wheel in this barbed love triangle is manager Phil Parkinson, who has led the Trotters to third place.
It’s a remarkable feat. Now, fans need to see action – urgently. Not a playground scrap that does no-one any favours.
