TAMMY ‘GUTTED’ BY HIS THIGH INJURY

- By Luke Baker

BRISTOL CITY are still waiting to learn the severity of Tammy Abraham’s thigh injury, but former Robins star Leroy Rosenior has demanded other players step up in the Chelsea loanee’s absence.

Abraham, 19, limped off during the midweek loss to Leeds and has now returned to Stamford Bridge to be assessed by the Chelsea medical staff.

The striker, on a seasonlong loan from the Blues, has plundered 21 goals, but with the youngster set for a spell on the sidelines, Rosenior – who made more than 50 appearances for City – believes his team-mates must seize the chance.

“They might lose Tammy to injury for a while,” wrote the 52-yearold in his column for The

Bristol Post. “That would be a huge blow, but maybe also an opportunity for others to step up.

“They need something because opposition teams – even if they felt they could score against City – always knew Abraham was likely to get a goal as well. Now, it is up to other players to take responsibility at both ends of the field.”

Abraham hobbled off in the first half of City’s 2-1 defeat at Elland Road, potentially bringing a superb season to a halt.

Robins manager Lee Johnson says his young striker fears the worst.

“Tammy is gutted because he thinks it’s something serious,” explained Johnson.

“We hope that isn’t the case.

“He’s played a lot of games for a young kid, but you cannot leave him out when he is nigh-on the top scorer in the league.”

One man who will definitely face time on the sidelines is defender Mark Little, after suffering a grade two tear of his hamstring.

The 28-year-old also picked up the injury during the first half of the Leeds loss and will be out for between four and six weeks.
