HATTERS CANPULL OFF NEW TRICKS – JONES

- By Will Holderness

THE only way is up in Luton Town’s bid to apply pressure on those occupying the automatic promotion spots, according to manager Nathan Jones.

Tuesday’s 3-0 victory over Hartlepool made it three wins in a row at home in all competitions for the Hatters, but Jones is still ruing the points they have missed in recent weeks.

“We think we’re in decent form. We are a little bit disappointed not to have picked up as many points as we could have,” said the 43-year-old.

“We missed an injury-time penalty up at Grimsby (in a 1-1 draw). We felt we were good value for a win at Wycombe as well (also 1-1), so we are in good form.

“It’s pleasing because it is a crucial part of the season and the real business end – and these will be defining weeks to come.”

Jones is impressed with the development of his players since imposing his passing style of play.

But he’s aware that they must vary their methods to outwit opponents and win games.

“What we don’t want to become is a one-trick pony,” added Jones. “We don’t want to become predictable in anything we do.We have had to evolve as a team and we have tried a few different shapes.

“Now we have added a different dimension to our game and it’s brought fruition. So, whatever sides want to do to us, if they come and sit back and sit in, absolutely no problem whatsoever from our point of view.

“We have different ways now of winning games and we have proved that.

“I am pleased with where we are as a squad, as a team.

“I am pleased with where we are in our education, because we are proving that we can do what we need to do.”
