FROM BALDOCK

pedal and sealed a very impressive victory. Tom Bradshaw had fired a shot into the side-netting for the Tykes early on, but once Baldock had struck, the game was up for the hosts.

Baldock latched on to a perfectly-weighted through-ball from Anthony Knockaert in the 58th minute before smashing home unerringly past Adam Davies from just inside the box.

His tenth goal of the campaign was almost as eye-catching. It came 15 minutes later, with Knockaert again the provider.

The Seagulls wide-man twisted and turned on the edge of the box before crossing in low for Baldock, who side-footed tidily past Davies this time.

It was a disappointing defeat for Barnsley, who despite the result will continue to push hard in their tilt at the play-offs.

They went into the game on the back of a terrific win at Aston Villa and Tykes boss Paul Heckingbottom said: “I don’t think there was too much between the two teams. The main difference was they were clinical at one end and we weren’t. They also restricted us to very few chances, but if Adam Hammill had converted his to make it 1-1, I would have fancied us from there.

“They were great finishes from Sam though, and once they had gone in front you could see how organised and disciplined they were.

“The opening goal definitely changed the momentum of the game. From that point you can see just how much of a quality side Brighton are.”
