Rams fan Ed reclaims record

-

IT WAS a big day for football fanatic Ed Wood yesterday – he was due to reclaim a Guinness World Record he first set a quarter of a century ago!

The Derby County supporter’s visit to Rochdale v Charlton was going to complete his goal of attending a match at all the Premier League and EFL grounds – plus English-based Berwick Rangers – in a new record time of 189 days. Wood, from Leeds, had originally set a record of 243 days in in the 1991-92 season, but his mark was broken three years later.

The Rams fans took a sabbatical from his job at Lloyds Banking Group to complete the challenge and has raised over £5,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.

He said: “I’ve had great support from fans up and down the country, and I’d especially like to thank Wigan for arranging a collection for me and the Cambridge fans who gave me a lift on their supporters bus from Plymouth to Bristol.

“The best game was probably Spurs v Chelsea at White Hart Lane; the ground was full, everyone was singing and it was an entertaining game.

“I was never scared about not getting the record, as I plotted a virtual route last season and did it in 198 days, so, without an illness or an ultimatum from my girlfriend, I knew I’d be OK!”
