THIS IS PERFECT GAME FOR US – NEIL

-

ALEX Neil says his side must start “turning up” against the division’s minnows after a midweek defeat to lowly Burton punctured their play-off charge. The Canaries host rivals Ipswich today knowing victory will leave them four points shy of a place in the top six. That gap would have been even tighter but for a 2-1 reverse at the Pirelli which ended Norwich’s six-game unbeaten streak. City’s only other defeat of 2017 was to rock-bottom Rotherham and with fixtures against Blackburn and Bristol City to come, Neil has warned his men to start showing their class. “When we’re at it and we’re on song, we’re one of the best teams in the league,” insisted the Scot, who won promotion to the Premier League with Norwich in 2015. “The difficulty we’ve found this season is going to the smaller places when we need to turn up and turn it on there. “It’s mindset as much as anything. We get the goal at Burton and our focus is immediately ‘Let’s get the next one’. “But they’re a decent team and what you can’t do against decent teams is switch off defensively when you’re chasing goals. We did that, got done on the counter and paid the price. It’s something we’ve got to improve. Neil, though, says the visit of Ipswich is the perfect chance to get project promotion back on track. “It’s the best fixture we could have had,” he added. “After the disappointment against Burton, you need to make sure the players haven’t flattened. That they’re up for it. I don’t think any other game in the league will get them up like this one. “Ipswich will be confident coming here. They’ve played a lot of the top teams recently and acquitted themselves really well. They’ll be imagining that the pressure is on us and will play with a bit of freedom. It’s up to us to deal with that.” Ipswich talisman Tom Lawrence will be suspended for the clash but Neil is ready to welcome back his own key midfielder in Steven Naismith, who has missed the last month with a hamstring injury.
