WAGNER TIES UP ELIAS AS TERRIER
HUDDERSFIELD head coach David Wagner says Elias Kachunga suits English football right down to the ground after signing the forward permanently.
Kachunga, 24, joined Huddersfield on a seasonlong loan from Bundesliga side FC Ingolstadt 04 in June and has quickly endeared himself to his new fans.
He has played more Championship minutes than any other Town player and is the club’s top scorer with 11 goals in 39 starts and one substitute appearance.
That form saw Kachunga called up to the Democratic Republic of Congo squad for the first time for today’s friendly with Kenya.
And it also persuaded Terriers boss Wagner to tie him down down permanently, paying £1.1million for his services.
Kachunga has signed until 2020 and Wagner believes his man will only get better.
“I said in the summer this move was perfect for the club and the player, as the loan gave everyone the chance to see how Elias would adapt to English football,” said Germanborn Wagner. “I think it’s now correct to say he has adapted well!
“His style of play suits the English style perfectly.
“The most exciting thing is that, at 24, there is still more to come from Elias!” DAVID WAGNER – P22
