GUTHRIE HAS TO BATTLE AT CREWE
JON Guthrie has an almighty fight on his hands if he is to regain a place in the Crewe first team, with competition in the back four fierce.
A hernia injury has kept the 24-year-old defender on the sidelines since February and Crewe have enjoyed a hot streak – claiming four wins from five games in March.
Four clean sheets in that run has left manager David Artell impressed, and Guthrie is far from assured of his place in the team as the Alex near survival.
“The competition is good and that is what I wanted to create. If a player is left out, they are left out for the right reasons,” he said.
“Jon Guthrie has been terrific for us this season but he is out injured. He will have a job to get back in and he understands that.
“The back four have kept four clean sheets out of five, so they are in possession of the shirts.
“When he is back fit, then he will provide even more competition.”
