PHIL AND FILIPE MAKE IT A BOLTON DOUBLE

- By Tom Blackett

BOLTON are looking good for promotion back to the Championship – and a couple of individual accolades highlight the form they’re in.

Manager Phil Parkinson has been named the Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month for March after the Trotters earned 16 points, and scored 17 goals, from six games, including an impressive 4-2 away win at promotion rivals Fleetwood.

Parkinson said: “I’m very pleased to win the award. We’ve had a good month with some excellent results, especially on our travels, and it sets us up nicely for the final run-in.

“My particular highlight of March would have to be the Fleetwood game – at the time we went there, they were 18 games unbeaten, so to go there and win as convincingly as we did gave us a real lift of confidence.”

Winger Filipe Morais made it a Bolton double by scooping the player honour. Directly involved in 12 of Bolton’s 17 goals, he scored two and had an incredible 10 assists.

The 31-year-old said: “It’s always good to be recognised outside of the club and it’s been a pretty special month. I owe a lot of credit to my team-mates for being able to put the ball in the back of the net, though, as that’s the hardest thing to do in football.”

Meanwhile, Accrington Stanley achieved the same feat in League Two, claiming both awards.

John Coleman bagged the manager prize after Stanley won five and drew two to climb from 21st to 13th place, while striker Shay McCartan, 22, took the player honour with a haul of six goals in seven games.

In the Championship, Wolves boss Paul Lambert was the top manager after his side closed out the month with three successive wins to move away from danger.

Preston striker Tom Barkhuizen, 23, claimed the player prize after notching five goals and an assist.
