COLLINS WAITS ON DEAL AT MARINERS

- By Becky Grey

GRIMSBY Town manager Marcus Bignot and defender Danny Collins admit the player’s future at the club is still up in the air.

Collins says he has enjoyed his time with the Mariners this term as it has given him the chance to play every week.

Collins, 36, said: “When I joined last summer, the gaffer (Paul Hurst) said he wanted me here next season as well, but I’ve not signed anything as such. There are one or two others in the same boat.

“I’ll just play as many games as I can between now and the end of the season and take it from there.”

Bignot, who became boss in November after Hurst left for Shrewsbury, said: “From day one, Danny knew where he stands with me but, as John (director John Fenty) has already gone on record as saying, it’s very hard to negotiate during the season.

“As a manager, do I want to lose Danny Collins or (centre-back) Shaun Pearson? Absolutely not, but it comes down to finances.”
