KEEPER LUKE IS READY TO MAKE IMPACT
NORTHAMPTON Town boss Justin Edinburgh has snapped up goalkeeper Luke Coddington – and reckons he’s an ‘excellent prospect’.
Coddington, 22, joins on a free transfer from Premier League Huddersfield Town and has signed a two-year deal at Sixfields.
He has represented England at age-group level up to Under-19 and has been at the club for a number of weeks already – appearing in their pre-season clash against Corby Town.
“Luke has hugely impressed us and we are delighted to add him to the squad,” said Edinburgh.
“He is a highly-thoughtof keeper and we think he is an excellent prospect.
“He has always been on our list this summer, but his availability as a permanent signing this week changed our thinking.
“We felt a decision had to be made and we didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity of signing Luke, while waiting for some of the other loan options.
“We wanted to be in control of our own destiny.
“Luke will provide excellent competition for David Cornell and, with two weeks of the transfer window left, while the squad is now generally settled, we may still see some movement before the window closes.”
Coddington added: “Being involved in something like that (promotion to the Premiership) last year with Huddersfield under David Wagner was a really good experience for me, but as a young lad of only 21 I wasn’t ready to play there.
“This is definitely where I want to be and I could not be happier with the way that things have gone.”
Meanwhile, the Cobblers have made another addition to their ranks by bringing in highly-rated Swansea City midfielder Matt Grimes, 22, on loan until the end of the season.
