JUSTIN: I’M SURE WE WILL TURN IT AROUND

- By Chris Dunlavy

JUSTIN Edinburgh has asked supporters to stick by his Northampton players as they battle to reverse a miserable start to the season.

The Cobblers went into yesterday’s home clash against high-flying Peterborough as one of just three EFL sides yet to register a point.

After last weekend’s 4-1 defeat to Charlton, only Oldham are keeping them off the foot of League One but Edinburgh is convinced the tide is about to turn.

“I totally get the frustration,” said the 47-year-old, who took charge at Sixfields in January. “I’ve been in this business for 31 years as a player and manager and so I know how it feels when you aren’t winning games. It hurts.

“But I can also see that we aren’t a million miles away. Every game we’ve been in has been decided by fine lines.

“Decisions that have gone against us. Opportunities we haven’t been ruthless with. Late goals.

“That said, I’m fully aware it’s a results business and I know our supporters will have their opinions on why we aren’t getting them.

“All I’d say is to forget your frustrations for the 90 minutes. Everyone wants to win, everyone wants to do well.

“As long as the players continue to show commitment and passion, I’ve no doubt the fans will stick by us. And once we get that first result, we’ll kick on.”

After signing 14 players over the summer, Edinburgh doesn’t believe more recruits are needed to spark an upturn in fortunes.

“You can never say never, but I’m happy with the group,” he added. “We’re still bedding in, getting to know each other. It was never going to happen overnight.

“But they’re getting there. They just need to relax and believe in themselves. They’re all capable players, that’s for sure.”
