HARRY’S HAPPY TO JOIN ‘FAMILY’ DONS...

- By James Roberts

AFC WIMBLEDON and Rangers may be worlds apart in history, fanbase and standing in the game, but new Dons loanee Harry Forrester insists they are not that different at all.

The attacking midfielder joined the Londoners on a season-long loan from Rangers this week after falling out of favour with the SPL giants and is back in English football for the first time in 18 months.

Then he was a key cog at Doncaster, but now the 26year-old has a point to prove after falling out of favour at Ibrox.

Forrester helped the Scottish side claw their way back into the top flight after a four-year absence, and sees similarities between them and AFC Wimbledon’s rise through Non-League football.

“The AFC Wimbledon story is a unique one. In some ways it’s similar to the Rangers one – having to start from the bottom and work your way up,” he said.

“Like Rangers, they’ve done the same thing. I think it builds character for the squad itself and the club and hopefully the future is bright.

“It’s a lot of different to Rangers obviously. Here, it’s a bit smaller and bit more like a family club, which I like. I’ve played at Brentford before – which is like that – so it’s something I’m familiar with and I’m looking forward to.”

It may be a bit of a culture shock for Forrester, having gone from entertaining 55,000 Rangers fans every week to playing in front of just 4,000 at Kingsmeadow, but he says he leapt at the chance.

“I got a call expressing AFC Wimbledon’s interest and I was desperate to go out and play,” he said.

“I think it’s a good step for me. The club is going in the right direction and the manager (Neal Ardley) here wants to achieve things this year.”
