ROWETT WILL NOT RUSH TO BEEF UP NUMBERS

- By Charlie Peat

GARY Rowett has revealed that he is still on the hunt for signings – but will not be drawn into any senseless purchases.

With transfer deadline day looming, the Rams boss is eager to bolster the squad before time runs out.

Rowett hinted at others possibly joining Abdoul Camara, Cyrus Christie, Will Hughes, Tom Ince and in leaving Pride Park as well as the possibility of new arrivals.

“You always expect to do business but you can’t really predict things, as we have found in this window,” Rowett said.

“I would imagine there will be one or two outs and we will also work hard to get some ins as well; but it is up to us to make the right decisions on the right signing for the right deal.

“That’s the important thing. If any deal gets too heavy because another team is desperate to add that player to their ranks instead then we don’t want to be in that position.”

Derby have already acquired defenders Curtis Davies and Andre Wisdom, and midfielders Tom Huddlestone and Tom Lawrence this summer.

However, Rowett outlined his cautious approach to transactions in a transfer window characterised by record-breaking fees.

Rams fans must therefore not expect the club to break the bank to bring in new arrivals at Pride Park. Prudence is the watchword.

“We have done good business so far and we want to continue to do sensible business to improve our side or give us a different option.

“There are clubs desperate to get players through the door in this division and if they are, then some will be prepared to overpay. We are not prepared to do that.

“We want to get business done sensibly and if deals become silly in our opinion then we will leave some of those deals alone.”
