HUCKS: I WILL STILL BE CHIRPY CANARY
NORWICH legend Darren Huckerby says his loyalty and love for the Canaries will not disappear after he confirmed his departure from the club’s coaching set-up this week.
The 41-year-old former winger, who scored 48 goals in 203 games for Norwich and was a key part of the side that won the First Division title in 2003-04 under Nigel Worthington, was working as an assistant coach for the Canaries’ Under-23s side.
However, on Thursday, Huckerby took to social media to confirm he would be relinquishing his position, with sporting director Stuart Webber currently revamping Norwich’s backroom structure.
In a statement posted on Twitter, the former Coventry, Manchester City and San Jose Earthquakes man said: “While obviously disappointed to be leaving my role within the academy, it’s something that happens every day in football.
“I’d like to thank all of the staff, coaches, and players I’ve worked with over the years. I hope my professionalism, dedication and will to win rubbed off on a few of them.
“My loyalty and love for NCFC will never change, my association with the club will hopefully last forever.
“I’d like to wish the first team and academy staff all the best for the rest of the season, starting with three points against Hull on Saturday.
“See you there, Hucks – On the Ball City!”
Head physio Stuart Wardle also announced his departure, while academy head of recruitment Greg Broughton and head of coaching Phil Church are also thought to have left.
Huckerby, who left as a player in 2008 when Glenn Roeder refused to renew his contract, rejoined as a youth coach and rose through the ranks – coaching the Under-16s and Under-18s before being appointed to assist Under23s manager Matt Gill.
