It’s a Kee moment as Billy’s spot-on...

- By Jacque Talbot

ACCRINGTON put their disappointing result against Stevenage behind them with a convincing win over Crewe Alexandra, pushing them back into an automatic promotion place.

A penalty early on from in-form striker Billy Kee put the Reds ahead before a header from Jordan Clark ten minutes later saw the Lancashire side move into the desired topthree position in League Two.

John Coleman said after the game: “I am happy with the result. I actually thought we could have played better. We let Crewe dominate the game in the first half even though we were 2-0 up.

“We played quite well in the second half; we did not have much to struggle with until the end. So, overall I feel that it has been a pleasing afternoon. We have just got to keep going, throwing as much at it as we can.”

Stanley opened the scoring early on, as Michael Raynes clumsily brought down Kee inside the box, with referee Blackman brandishing a yellow card for the centre-back.

From the spot, Stanley striker Kee made no mistake, sending goalkeeper Dave Richards in the opposite direction to open proceedings.

Crewe did respond as Raynes went clear on goal but his effort trickled the wrong side of the post.

Then the visitors doubled their lead. A brilliant save was made by Richards, but the clinical Clark headed home from close range to make it two for Stanley.

The home side were creating chances, though. Jordan Bowery snuck through a dozing Stanley defence, but his shot was too wild and smashed into the advertising hoardings.

Just before half-time, Perry Ng went for glory himself, trying to curl the ball into the top corner, with Aaron Chapman off his line.

His effort, however, went over the bar, sending the increasingly restless Alex supporters into further frustration.

Unhappy Crewe boss David Artell said: “Accrington put crosses into the box and we didn’t, it’s as simple as that.

“They put their two chances away and we did not.

“I think we should have scored more than two to try and get back in the game, but if you let your men in behind you, you deserve everything you get.”

Crewe have hit a patchy spell of form and are only five points off the relegation zone.

Artell’s men need to find a spark or they are in danger of getting pulled into a relegation battle.
