But Day was full of praise for Lowe and gave a rallying call for supporters to back the caretaker boss.

“He’s a fans’ favourite and he loves the club, but I wouldn’t have put him in charge if I didn’t think he was capable of motivating the players,” said Day.

“The lads like him. He’s a positive guy and he wants the best for the club.

“He wants to be successful, he wanted to be given a go and I hope people get behind him.” BURY chairman Stewart Day has indicated that caretaker-manager Ryan Lowe could take on the role full-time.

Club legend Lowe has been in temporary charge of the team since Lee Clark was sacked on Monday after four straight defeats, with his assistant Alan Thompson also departing the club.

Lowe, 39, is now in his third spell with the club and there has been a clamour among fans to see him appointed to the managerial position full-time, and it seems that Day isn’t against the idea.

“I’ve got a fantastic relationsh­ip with Ryan, always have done, and I want him to succeed,” said Day.

“We’ve got a big game on Sunday (against Woking in the FA Cup) and it’s something we’re eager to win. It’s also seeing what the
