Now Uwe’s Cod seek to batter the Posh

- By John Lyons

AS SOON as Fleetwood wrapped up their FA Cup victory at Hereford on Thursday night, manager Uwe Rosler’s attention turned to this afternoon’s match against Peterborough.

So, while interviewers wanted to talk about Jamie Vardy’s return to Fleetwood with Leicester in the New Year, Rosler played a straight bat.

And the fact that today’s hosts Peterborough played their FA Cup replay earlier in the week – they put Woking to the sword 5-2 – didn’t go unnoticed.

“It’s very important we left Hereford as winners and we did a good job,” he said. “Our next thought is Peterborough and that will be tough. They have two days more recovery time, so we have to make sure we do everything right until Sunday 3 o’clock.”

What gives the former Brentford, Wigan and Leeds boss optimism for today’s Highbury showdown is the professional job his players turned in against Hereford. It could have been a tricky tie against the NonLeague outfit, but two Cian Bolger headers in a controlled display eased the Cod Army into the next round.

It also boosts morale in the camp following a six-game winless run in League One which has seen the Cod Army drift into mid-table.

The 49-yearold German said: “I’m proud of my players and our attitude pleased me very much. Our midfield had probably only 50 to 60 games under their belts together.

“We haven’t won for a while in the league and now we’re looking forward to Peterborough.”

Posh go into the game in good spirits after lining up an FA Cup tie at Aston Villa by seeing off the Cards. They could also do with all three points this afternoon after sliding to tenth place in the table, pre-weekend.

Posh boss Grant McCann, who will be without striker Junior Morias (thigh), said: “In previous years, we have struggled at Fleetwood.

“Our performances and results haven’t been great, so we know we need to go there and put on a performance.”
