CIAN: NOW BRING ON VARDY & CO!

- By John Lyons

CIAN Bolger wrecked Hereford’s Cup dreams with a double salvo – and now the Fleetwood Town captain has Jamie Vardy’s Leicester in his sights.

In Thursday night’s second round replay, the 25-year-old Irishman powered home two superb headers to end Non-League interest in this year’s competition.

Defender Bolger struck on ten minutes and then just before the hour to ensure the Cod Army will host former favourite Vardy’s Foxes.

The former Leicester trainee said: “It will be nice to see some old faces, but they have moved on since I was there. There’s a bit of a thing with Jamie Vardy coming back, and we will be trying to do them over.”

Decisive

Blackburn bagged a home tie against Hull by grinding out a 1-0 victory at League Two outfit Crewe on Wednesday.

After the replay was put back 24 hours because of a frozen pitch, Tony Mowbray’s men made the decisive breakthrough when the experienced Danny Graham coolly slotted home in the 24th minute after fine work by Derrick Williams.

The previous night, two EFL clubs got the better of Non-League opposition, but it certainly wasn’t easy. League One leaders

Wigan were given a fright by National League side AFC Fylde. Indeed, the Latics looked in deep trouble when they trailed 2-1 with ten minutes left.

However, Northern Ireland striker Will Grigg, who scored in the first game, stepped up to the plate. He clinically notched an 80th-minute equaliser before poking home the winner four minutes later.

Earlier, Ivan Toney had tapped in to put Wigan ahead, only for the Coasters to respond through Simon Grand and the prolific Danny Rowe.

Wigan can now look forward to a trip to Premier League side Bournemouth in the third round. Peterborough eventually

ran out 5-2 victors against Woking, but they didn’t have it all their own way.

Inih Effiong gave the National League Cards the lead before Michael Doughty levelled. And it was all-square again after Jack Marriott gave Posh the lead and Matt Young equalised for Woking.

But Marriott’s second, a minute after Young’s 68thminute goal, finally broke the Cards’ resolve.

Marcus Maddison gave Peterborough breathing space from the spot in the 78th minute before Gwion Edwards rounded things off stoppage time. Grant McCann’s men now have an attractive tie at Aston Villa to look forward to.

Exeter have a home tie against Alan Pardew’s West Brom to savour after battling their way past Forest Green 2-1 after extra-time.

Paul Tisdale’s Grecians were up against it after Forest Green marksman Christian Doidge netted from the penalty spot after being fouled. They also had Jordan Tillson sent off for two bookable offences.

However, the ten men dug deep and drew level when Pierce Sweeney scored from the spot on 73 minutes to force extra-time.

After Rovers’ Emmanuel Monthe was sent off for his second bookable offence on 109 minutes, to level the sides up numerically, Jayden Stockley proved the hero by flying in to head home a 115thminute winner.

Dipping

Yeovil will host Bradford after an action-packed 3-2 replay win against Port Vale. It looked as though the Glovers were on their way when Otis Khan scored from the spot on the stroke of halfin time and Vale’s Cristian Montano was sent off for the foul.

It also looked like game over when James Gibbons saw red for a foul on 54 minutes. However, Neil Aspin’s nine men forced extra-time through Marcus Harness’ sweet strike.

Khan fired Yeovil back in front, but incredibly the Valiants drew level for a second time with a 25-yard dipping volley from Antony Kay in the 108th minute.

However, they were hit by a knock-out blow a minute later as Francois Zoko volleyed home from six yards for the winner.
