Paul still keen for yet Moore Kieffer...

- By Michael Beardmore

ROTHERHAM boss Paul Warne is praying the promotion-hunting Millers have not seen the last of star loan striker Kieffer Moore.

The 6ft 5in forward rounded off his loan spell by setting up David Ball’s winner at Walsall but now heads back to parent club Ipswich.

Warne confirmed the Millers have made their move for Moore and believes they have a great chance of landing the striker in January.

“We’ve put a bid in, as will other clubs I presume, and I expect Ipswich will have a look at him,” he said.

“I wish him all the best if he goes back and plays in the Championship every week because he’s done brilliant for us.

“If they want to sell him, the usual thing happens – he goes to the highest bidder and hopefully we will be in and about it.

“Hopefully, him having been here gives us an advantage. He’s a bit of a cult hero here and it’s nice to play where you are loved.”

Moore only started on the bench at Walsall but soon made an impact after coming on at half-time.

His towering header from Josh Emmanuel’s 58th-minute cross was blocked but Ball pounced to poke home from close range.

Ball had earlier played a key part in Rotherham’s opener as the game exploded into life with two goals in the opening 12 minutes.

Rotherham led inside a minute as Walsall made a hash of clearing a free-kick and Ball surged into the box to square for Semi Ajayi to tap home from a couple of yards out.

Walsall took only 11 minutes to level as Joe Edwards bulleted a ten-yard header into the top corner from Luke Leahy’s pinpoint cross.

Walsall should have led at the interval but Erhun Oztumer rolled wide from 12 yards after latching on to Daniel Agyei’s through-ball.

Ball’s strike rewarded Rotherham’s early second-half superiority before Saddlers sub Simeon Jackson fluffed a golden chance to pinch a point for Walsall, scuffing straight at Millers keeper Marek Rodak from six yards.

Walsall boss Jon Whitney groaned: “We have conceded a really poor first goal with terrible defending.

“I thought their second goal was poor too. It was too easy for their guy to get the cross in first and foremost.

“I understand that Kieffer Moore is going to win first headers sometimes because of his size.

“But we can still deal with the second ball much better and protect the keeper.”
