KELLETT: YOU’VE NOT HAD BEST OF ME YET

- By Rich Dore

ANDY Kellett says he has shown only glimpses of his true ability for Chesterfield this season, despite earning applause from all corners.

The 24-year-old joined on a season-long loan deal from Wigan over the summer, after seemingly falling out of favour with the Latics towards the end of last season.

The versatile defender has featured in several positions for the Spireites this season – left-back, left wing and No.10 – and is targeting more goals as he settles into the side.

“It’s going a lot better,” said Kellett. “But there’s a lot more to come.

“I know what I’ve done and I know I can do more. I’ve shown glimpses of what I’m capable of.

“The manager’s told me that I’ve been doing well for him, but I’m always demanding more of myself to help the team and I do feel I’ve not been playing as well as I should be.

“I don’t think things have gone for me in certain ways, but I’m sure that, when the team and myself get a bit more confidence, you’ll see a completely different me and team.

“I feel like I’ve got into some really good positions but I’ve probably tried to be too clever in some situations.

“I’ve just got to put my foot through it.”

Despite improved performances under manager Jack Lester, who took over the reins from Gary Caldwell in September, Chesterfield are still struggling at the bottom of League Two.

But Kellett insists they have what it takes to avoid relegation.

“There are a lot of lads injured and probably lads who are playing with niggles, which isn’t helping, but they’re trying to do the best for the team,” he added.

“We know what we demand of each other and how to win games.”
