IPSWICH POUNCE TO LAND POCH’S PRODIGY
ONCE described as a player that could become one of the best centrebacks in England by Mauricio Pochettino, Cameron Carter-Vickers is out to continue realising his potential at Ipswich.
After spending the first half of the season on loan at Sheffield United, the 20year-old US international has joined the Tractor Boys on loan for the season.
Carter-Vickers was recalled by Spurs after Blades boss Chris Wilder signed Ryan Leonard from Southend.
But, with Ipswich moving quickly to acquire his services, the youngster is now focused on giving his all for Mick McCarthy’s troops.
“I didn’t expect to be called back. I thought I would be at Sheffield for the season but then I got told Ipswich wanted me,” said Carter-Vickers.
“It’s all happened very quickly, but I know Ipswich are a big club and it’s an exciting opportunity.
“Hopefully I can help the team push on and compete for the top six places.
“I’ve really enjoyed Championship football. It’s a demanding league and there are a lot of big clubs in the division.
“Ipswich are one of them and I’m thankful for the chance to play here.”
Carter-Vickers was born in Southend but is the son of former basketballer Howard Carter, who had spells in the NBA with the Denver Nuggets and Dallas Mavericks.
He made his US debut in a friendly against Portugal last November.
Meanwhile, Ipswich have also signed Irish midfielder Stephen Gleeson on a free from Birmingham.
The 29-year-old, capped four times by the Republic of Ireland, will stay at Portman Road until the end of the season and is relishing linking up with McCarthy once again.
“He gave me my first pro contract and gave me my debut at Wolves, along with Terry Connor,” he said.
