Otis sees red for ref shove in defeat

- By Kevin Johnson

YEOVIL winger Otis Khan will miss out on his dream of facing Manchester United in the FA Cup on Friday after being sent off for pushing referee Kevin Johnson in stoppage time.

The wideman felt he was fouled in the buildup to Kristian Dennis’ 93rd-minute winner and reacted angrily, clearly making contact with Johnson.

It means the boyhood United fan, who was released by the club aged 16, will be suspended when they visit Huish Park in the fourth round next week.

And it also leaves Yeovil just two points above the dropzone after the Spireites’ victory saw them boost their own survival hopes.

Louis Reed put Chesterfield ahead with a secondhalf free-kick and after Lewis Wing equalised for the Glovers, Dennis grabbed the winner on the break late on.

Yeovil boss Darren Way said: “It’s very disappointing. We always seem to be on the wrong end of referees’ decisions. I saw the incident leading up to their goal very clearly and I feel sorry for Otis because he’s had his dream shattered.

“I can deal with this and I will always protect my players but the decision not to give a free-kick for the clear pull on Otis was a poor one. Otis is a broken man in the dressing room and I really feel for him. I’m gutted.”

Chesterfield are now just one point behind Yeovil after following up their victory over League Two leaders Luton with a win at Huish Park.

Boss Jack Lester said:“It’s a massive win for us. Yeovil were at home and looking to go seven points clear of us but now the gap is down to just one and it was important we backed up our win against Luton last weekend.

“I know they wanted a foul in the build-up to our game but I didn’t see it. I just saw Kristian’s great run and finish. He’s been a big goalscorer for us and it’s great to see him back.”

After a goalless first half, Chesterfield went ahead when Reed curled in from 20 yards.

Yeovil levelled with ten minutes left as onloan Middlesbrough midfielder Wing blasted in from long range.

But with the Glovers chasing a winner, it was the visitors who broke away to claim victory. Khan had his shirt pulled and stopped, expecting a free-kick.

But with no whistle, the Spireites played on and Dennis capitalised on a mix-up between Artur Krysiak and Bevis Mugabi to shoot into an empty net.

He then pushed Johnson and now faces a lengthy ban.
