IT’S SO CRUCIAL TO SEIZE MOMENT – DAVID

- By John Lyons

SWINDON boss David Flitcroft has urged his players to grasp every opportunity that comes their way.

The Robins have been superb on the road this season, bagging a divisionhigh ten away wins, but they let a great chance slip through their fingers at fellow high-flyers Wycombe last Tuesday.

Marc Richards gave the Robins the lead in just the second minute, but they couldn’t hold on to that advantage and were behind with just ten minutes gone.

But what frustrated Flitcroft all the more was that his side failed to capitalise on a stunning 35-yard freekick leveller from former Portsmouth and Bolton midfielder Matt Taylor just after the hour mark.

The former Barnsley boss felt that should have given his troops the boost they needed to go on and push for another maximum.

Instead, Wycombe came on strong in the closing stages and evergreen striker Adebayo Akinfenwa headed home an 89thminute winner to send Swindon back to Wiltshire with nothing to show for their considerable efforts.

“Football’s about momentum and when you are in a game where you are 2-1 down and Matty Taylor steps up and scores an absolutely outstanding goal, that’s the energy that you should then thrive off.

“You don’t get a better opportunity to come back in a game than with a goal like that and that should have given us the energy and adrenaline.

“Matty Taylor certainly didn’t deserve to be on the losing team.”

And if they weren’t going to get the win, then Flitcroft felt they should have dug deep to at least earn a share of the spoils.

“You have to respect the point, it was a hard-earned point, but we didn’t,” he added. “We gave them opportunities, a couple of chances to throw the ball in the box and we’ve conceded a late goal.”
