WE HAVE TO HANG IN THERE INSISTS MOULT

- By Richard Dore

PRESTON new boy Louis Moult believes the club’s promotion chase will go down to the wire as the Lilywhites look to turn draws into wins in pursuit of their target.

After a prolific spell in front of goal for Motherwell that yielded 50 strikes in 98 games, Moult was signed by Preston boss Alex Neil in January to aid the promotion chase.

The 25-year-old forward was one of three January arrivals at the club, along with Billy Bodin, 25, and Connor Simpson, 18, and has already been impressed by the squad’s determination to finish in a play-off spot.

“It’s about staying in and around it at the moment,” said Moult.

“I think it will go right down to the wire, if I’m honest. As long as we’re there or thereabouts, we’ve always got a chance.

“I’ve never been part of a bunch that wants it as much as this bunch and I’m enjoying myself. I’m loving it.

“It’s a very driven, enthusiastic and passionate group – and all those things suit me.

“If we can all be like that and add quality to our game, it marries together really well.”

After overcoming hamstring problems, Moult finally made his full Championship debut for Preston in the 1-1 draw at Aston Villa in midweek, operating in a front two alongside Callum Robinson.

The striking partnership were able to test their mettle against former Chelsea and England captain John Terry, something which Moult revelled in.

“The injury I had was a frustrating one,” he said. “I think it was nearly ten weeks I was out for, which takes its toll.

“I’m still building the strength in my hamstring, but with more games the stronger it will get and the fitter I will get.

“It was a good challenge playing against John Terry. I enjoyed the battle.”
