BEES AND WHITES UP FOR AWARDS
BRENTFORD and Fulham will have high hopes when the prestigious 2018 London Football Awards take place on Thursday.
The Bees have four chances of scooping a prize at the event, to be hosted by Mark Chapman, at Battersea Evolution.
Josh Clarke and Romaine Sawyers are in contention for the EFL Player of the Year award, while Dan Bentley is on the shortlist for Goalkeeper of the Year.
The Brentford Community Sports Trust is in the running for the Community Project of the Year accolade.
Fulham have three opportunities to pick up an award – and wonderkid Ryan Sessegnon has two of them. The 17-year-old has been nominated in the EFL Player of the Year category and is also on the Young Player of the Year (Under-23) shortlist.
He is the only EFL player on the latter. It’s a sign of how significant his has been that he’s up against the likes of Premier League quartet Harry Winks, Davinson Sanchez (both Tottenham), Andreas Christensen (Chelsea) and Ainsley Maitland-Niles (Arsenal).
Contenders
Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic is in the running for the Manager of the Year gong, along with Millwall boss Neil Harris. The other contenders are Mauricio Pochettino (Tottenham), Roy Hodgson (Crystal Palace) and Emma Hayes (Chelsea Ladies).
Millwall have a second shot at a prize, as midfielder George Saville has been nominated for the EFL Player of the Year honour.
QPR goalkeeper Alex Smithies is the other contender for the EFL award, while the QPR in the Community Trust have been shortlisted for the Community Project award. AFC Wimbledon Foundation are also in the running for the Comprogress munity Project honour.
In their fourth year, the London Football Awards, sponsored by Toscafund, raise funds for former Arsenal goalkeeper and TV presenter Bob Wilson and his wife Megs’ charity, Willow the only national charity working with seriously ill young adults aged 16 to 40 to fulfil uplifting and unforgettable special days.
The shortlist of nominees was agreed by an independent panel of judges.
