WOLVES: WE’VE FOLLOWED RULES
CONFIDENT Wolves insist they have nothing to hide over their controversial linkup with Portuguese ‘superagent’ Jorge Mendes.
Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani raised concerns on social media after his side’s 3-0 home defeat by the league leaders on Wednesday night.
A subsidiary of Wolves owners Fosun own a share in Mendes' agency and several of his clients are at Molineux.
On Twitter, Radrizzani said: “Congratulations to the best team but hope the league can be fair and equal to all 24 teams.
“We have our own problems but we should play in a fair competition. Not legal and fair let one team owned by a fund whom has shares in the biggest players agency with evident benefits (top European clubs giving players with options to buy ..why the other 23 teams can’t have same?”
Concerns
At a meeting on Thursday, the EFL board considered ‘at length’ the relationship between Wolves, Fosun and Mendes ‘in light of the recent concerns raised by a number of clubs’.
In a statement, the EFL said: “It was agreed that the EFL executive will meet with the management of the club to reiterate the requirements of our regulations and those of the FA and will report back to the board in due course.
“It should be noted that the club was explicitly informed in July 2016 of all the requirements it was expected to meet as part of the change of control, and appropriate arrangements were put in place to ensure compliance.”
But Wolves, who in midweek announced a pre-tax loss of £23m for the 2016-17 season, are adamant they have done nothing wrong and believe they will be rapidly cleared.
“We are very clear on FA and EFL regulations and always comply with them explicitly,” said the club in a statement on Friday.
“We welcome any form of communication with the EFL to reiterate our position, and we fully anticipate the release of a further EFL statement in support of Wolves and the club’s operations to bring a prompt resolution to this matter.”
