THESE NON-LEAGUE GEMS COULD SHINE IN EFL

-

THE National League has proved to be a stepping stone for so many players who have taken the notso-giant leap into the Football League.

Playing in goal for Eastleigh this season has given me the chance to assess the quality of the players in the fifth tier.

Here are two I believe could easily make the transition from the National League to the EFL – and why. 1.Danny Rowe – AFC Fylde It’s to my disbelief and shock that a league club didn’t take the calculated gamble of signing AFC Fylde’s in-form striker Danny Rowe in January.

The Coasters’ talisman scored 47 goals last season and demonstrated his keen eye for a goal as his club won National League North.

He has been in sensational form again this season, netting 22 National League goals so far to top the charts.

The prolific striker is an exceptional finisher with the ability to score goals in and around the box with either foot, but it’s his powerful left foot that terrorises most keepers. The 28-year-old often plays as a lone striker and, with his physicality, dominates defenders, allowing midfielders to join in and play off him. His work ethic and desire to compete also stood out, having played against him twice this season. He failed to score on both occasions, I might add! His age may have put off some potential suitors, but it’s surely only a matter of time before Rowe is scoring goals and tormenting defenders in the EFL. 2.Nathan Ashmore – Ebbsfleet Utd The towering goalkeeper has been an ever-present for the Fleet this season, producing a number of exceptional performances.

His commanding presence, distribution and shotstopping are just a few reasons league clubs have been to cast an eye.

The ex-Gosport keeper has adapted to life in the National League very quickly. The 28-yearold stopper proved to be a match-winner on both occasions I faced Daryl McMahon’s team this season. Ashmore plays with belief and freedom. He’s not afraid to come for crosses and uses his physique to dominate his area. I believe, if his mentality and attitude are right, he can become an established Football League keeper for years to come. As a goalkeeper, he’s got a bit more time on his side.
